This post was written by Jill Landeryou – owner of Latitude 50 who offer luxury holiday cottages in North Cornwall. Their cottages are located in Rock, Polzeath and Port Isaac.
This is a wonderful restaurant nestled by the Camel Estuary in Rock, where you can enjoy delicious locally sourced food, whilst taking in the breathtaking views of the water. The Head Chef, Tom Cade, gained years of experience working at the Ritz Hotel, before moving down to Cornwall to cook up a storm in the Tides kitchen. The St Endoc asparagus, served with a choice of Hollandaise if served hot, or vinaigrette of served cold is divine at this time of year and then we recommend the Cornish Duck with Celeriac cream, pearl barley and baby leeks – total food luxury!
We recommend enjoying Falmouth Bay oysters and Champagne at Silks (based at the Atlantic Hotel, Newquay), as the perfect way to unwind in luxury on the north coast of Cornwall. The atmosphere is chic and relaxed and the views are good too. The staff here really know their stuff and even better they are always happy to go the extra mile to make your visit memorable, no matter how short.
Michelin starred chef Paul Ainsworth is head chef at Number 6 in Padstow and he is a super reason to go and dine here. In 6’s words the whole idea is to ‘relax, laugh and enjoy yourself,’ which sounds great to us when you consider their food: The food is absolutely top notch – all local, seasonal and cooked in a simple style, with a modern inspiration. The wine list is fabulous too, so make sure you have a cab home and treat yourself to a brilliant evening at Number 6.
There is no better way to really unwind on holiday than in your own cottage. And for luxury self catering cottages in Cornwall, we think that Latitude 50 have a great range, from cute little seaside spots suitable for just you and your other half, like the lovely Penquite Cottage in Port Issac, to more spacious cottages where you can take the whole family and a bunch of friends, like the gorgeous Treglyddins which sleeps eight and has its own pool. We love them all.
The Fistral Spa has great facilities – an indoor pool with underwater music and massaging cannons, as well as a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There are nine individual treatment rooms where you can get treated to the absolute lap of luxury and a specifically designed relaxation room where you can unwind afterwards on reclined loungers, listening to evocative sounds, in the ambient lighting. There is even a retail area where you can buy some of the products used during the treatment so you can take a little sample of you relaxation time home with you and recreate it again and again.
The spa at this award winning hotel is suitably great, with a modern feel and bright friendly staff who will pamper you and take away all of your cares. There is a luxurious pool to dip in, a wonderful cedar sauna and a steam room infused with eucalyptus to clear your mind and make you feel refreshed. We certainly left feeling revived.
If you are keen to hit the waves but want to be catered for in every luxury whilst you are doing it check out Global Boarders. They will think of everything for you from organising equipment, to excellent tuition, to even organising a private barbeque for you on the beach afterwards. Sounds like heaven to us.
We think that chartering a yacht for the afternoon or the day is the ultimate way to unwind in sophistication on the Cornish Rivera. You could take your boat up Frenchman’s creek and enjoy swimming in the cool water, or you could float along the Helford Passage, passing pretty little villages and taking in the gorgeous scenery. Either way, you will be moving in the height of luxury and be sure to have a truly decadent experience to remember.
There is a great range of entertainment available at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro, from theatre, to comedy, to music performances and there is no better way to feel like you are treating yourself than to buy the best tickets in the house. For the Queen’s Diamond jubilee you can see the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, and then you can feel like you are having a very regal day out!
You may have been watching the pounds before slipping into your summer bathing suit but now you’re on holiday its time to enjoy a little luxury. There is no better place to do it in than Fowey Hall, the inspiration for Toad Hall in ‘Wind in The Willows’. Here you can enjoy a full Afternoon Tea, complete with scones and Cornish clotted cream in the most decadent of settings.
That’s all for now but this post should give you lots of great ideas for next time you visit Cornwall and fancy a little bit of luxury in your life.
